Current Research

Patricia's current research is assessing plant-based food intakes of preschool-aged children participating in the Guelph Family Health Study (GFHS). The GFHS is an ongoing cohort study that examines the effects of home-based lifestyle interventions on obesity prevention in families with young children. To assess food intake of children, a Plant-Based Dietary Index (PDI) that was developed by a research group at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health was utilized. Since childhood is a critical age for development and growth, with unique nutritional implications, this study extends the understanding of plant-based diets in relation to nutrient and food group intakes of children.
